Northstar Winery in Walla Walla, Washington, treats its wastewater with worm power. The winery uses BioFiltro’s Biodynamic Aerobic System that will recycle about 283,200 gallons of wastewater at Northstar each year. Worms in a storage tank get the first crack at wastewater where they reduce larger solids into smaller solids while producing microbes. After several other steps in the process, the treated water eventually ends up as irrigation water. The system uses 95 percent less energy than a traditional wastewater treatment system.
